Carin started off as a professional ballet dancer, studied Physics in college, and has been developing software for both the enterprise and entrepreneur ever since. She digs Clojure, robots, and, of course, controlling robots with Clojure. She is highly involved in the community and spoken at many conferences, including keynoting at OSCON and Strange Loop. She helps lead the Cincinnati Functional Programmers and is the author of Living Clojure.

Diane is an encourager and counts her day successful if she has allowed someone to feel appreciated and/or supported. And a day is even more successful, if someone is thinking about something in a new way after their interaction.

After hours Diane continues to push the envelope with a more impervious crowd. She enjoys hanging out with her husband, 3 grown daughters and their partners and the pack of 8 dogs, any combination of which can be found at her house at any given time. In her downtime, she plots major renovation and remodeling schemes that she and her husband can start but never quite finish.

Justin co-founded Relevance in 2003 with Stuart Halloway, and subsequently became a co-founder of Cognitect in 2013 when it was formed via the merger of Relevance and Rich Hickey's Metadata Partners. His focus has been, variously, on development, execution, business development, management, and now on growing Cognitect. He is the co-author of 8 technical books, a long-time speaker and pundit, and a true believer in sustainable capitalism.

Marshall Thompson

Marshall has a varied background in both applied computer science and laboratory research. Before joining Cognitect, Marshall completed his Ph.D. at Duke University in Genetics & Genomics with a certificate in Cell & Molecular Biology. Marshall's graduate research explored the global relationships between RNA binding proteins and their mRNA targets, both experimentally and through computational and statistical modelling.

While studying computer science at the University of New Mexico, Marshall also performed research at Sandia National Laboratories, developing large-scale high-performance network simulation and analysis software. Marshall also maintains a passion for science and engineering education and has developed, managed, and continues to deliver coursework in Genetics, Chemistry and Biochemistry as an affiliate faculty member at the New Mexico State University College of Education.

Rich has worked on scheduling systems, broadcast automation, audio analysis and fingerprinting, database design, yield management, exit poll systems, and machine listening, in a variety of languages.

Russ Olsen

Russ likes to think that technology is there to solve problems for people, not the other way around. In a career that spans more than thirty years and includes work in such diverse fields as image processing, mapping and workflow systems, Russ has been a consistent advocate for processes and systems usable by actual human beings.

Russ was a very early adopter of Ruby and has written extensively about that language. Russ’ first book, Design Patterns in Ruby, is a complete reworking of the classic Gang of Four patterns for a modern dynamic programming language. Russ’ second book is the best selling Eloquent Ruby, a guide to writing idiomatic Ruby.

Russ has also been secretly enamored with parentheses since a very early age and has lately been found hacking away in Clojure.

Stuart Sierra

Stuart is an actor/writer/musician living in New York City. He also writes code and articles about code.

Stuart holds a B.F.A. in Theatre from New York University and an M.S. in Computer Science from Columbia University. As founder and assistant director of the Program on Law and Technology at Columbia, he created the first open-source legal search engine. He is interested in all aspects of human-computer interaction, including programming languages, user interfaces, and documentation.

Timothy Baldridge

Some people get excited about fast cars. Timothy gets excited about fast code. Nothing makes his day more than when someone asks him to improve the performance of an inner loop. He believes strongly that only by understanding all layers of modern computing can a programmer completely be aware of the consequences of their code. As such, Timothy is a programming language polyglot who has learned many languages, from assembly code to Clojure, from C# to CUDA.

He is also the father of 2 children, a martial artist, and an avid e-sports fan.
